Question 7

Media evaluation Question 7.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression form it to the full product?

Question 7

This is the video of me explaining how my skills have improved from the preliminary task, to the original movie.

Question 5

This video shows the feedback from a person who watched my film opening.

During the editing of my film, I got a feedback from my teacher. This helped me a lot, because it made my film better, and without those small mistakes. It helped me to appeal to the audience much better, because I didn't have those small gaps in between my scenes, as I had before, so the feedback really helped me.

As to the question of how I reached my audience, I already had a screening in cinema, sort of like premiere. The video is also on vimeo, and I am planning to put it on facebook, so people get the opportunity to share my film. Also the good idea, would be advertising, on buses and on the streets, taking into account that the most likely production to distribute my film would be Coffee Productions, which is British company.

This is an iShowU of me explaining the technologies i have used in my pre pro post production.

Question 7

Evaluation-Question 4

This scrapbook shows more specific audience for my sub genre. I said, that it is 16 to 35, by the fact that it is full of action, which younger generations like a lot, and also it is a psychological thriller, which makes you think about what's going on, which I think an older person would really enjoy in the film.

In our psychological thriller, the Unique Selling Point is the fact that the girl running in the wood is schizophrenic, but the audience doesn't know that. This is really attractive, for the audiences that like films with a little twist in it, and I think it would be attractive for older people watching it.

Evaluation-question 1

In our film opening, we used the convention of a female being the one in trouble. This is a stereotype used to make the audience believe that the woman is weak and that she will suffer. This convention is used in a film called "what lies beneath". This clip is of a part of this film, which shows part of her being attacked in her bathroom.
We used the same convention, only in different situation. In our film, the girl looks much younger, which suggests that she is more energetic then the woman from "what lies beneath". The girl is running through the forest, and she looks really scared, but the audience doesn't know why. This follows the convention, because the audience may think that she is exaggerating. The location of the forest is also a convention in films, because she is shown alone there, no one is there to help her and therefore bad things can happen to her. Her heavy breathing also indicates that she is in trouble.
Titles have its conventions as well, because from credits you can tell the genre of the film e.g. red credits for horror.

There is also a sequence that we followed in our film as well. It is important to put the titles in the correct order, so the audience knows the importance of those people. In our film, the titles are white with the background of the wood. You see the titles as the girl runs as well. In my opinion this is the convention for psychological thriller, because white can be compared to a calm atmosphere which you see in hospitals.

Media evaluation Question 4

Who would be the audience for your media product?

In general our target audience for our thriller were young people between the age 15-25. This is because the main characters are aged between 16-18 attracting the younger block of our target audience (15-20). But due to the sub genre being a phsycological thriller it will attract the older block of our target audience (20-25).

Below i carried out some research and i asked people aged 15-25 if they will be interested in watching the film.

Kazim Bas's response (male age 23) - Seems interesting, looks like something that i will go watch with friends.
Damian West (male aged 15) - "Not to keen on the film, looks boring"
Kate Goldstein (female aged 19) - "looks very interesting i would like to check it out"

Below is the statistics of the question is asked to 25 people

Would you be interested in watching this
Yes 56%
No 16%
Maybe 28%

Evaluation-Question 1

In what ways does your media product use develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products ?

Media studies Evaluation - Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Films openings often have the same or similar conventions, which consist of these elements;
*Opening Sequence
*Title sequence
*Production company logo
*Production distribution logo

Not all film openings use these elements but in our thriller we have used them.

*Opening sequence

Our opening sequence is similar to the movie "Shrooms" where there is a person running through the forest. Below is the screen grabs i have taken from youtube and vimeo.

Shrooms opening                                                            Our opening:

*Title sequence

For our title sequence we compared many Film openings such as Se7en and Physco but in the end we chose to make a simple white coloured title on a solid background that can stand out and look professional. Below is a screen grab of our title sequence.

Rough Cut Of Film

This is our rough copy of our film and we have worked really hard to get on track with our work. Our original footage was too dark for use so we had to go out and film again.
Things to do: 1) go through frame by frame to tighten the edit
2) Shorten long clips
3) Sort out the continuity edit error with the close up.
4) lengthen jumping over log clip.
5) Add titles and transitions

Ideas for our thriller - Foley sounds

In our thriller we will have a wide range of foley sounds that we will need to record these include:

- Heavy breathing
- Running through leaves
- Falling over
and so on.
These sounds are for both the girl who is running in the forest and the man in the ski mask.

Day Three of recording

Day three final day of filming

On our final day we met up early, which was a bad idea because the weather was too bright and we couldn't film, so we had to wait around two hours before we could start filming. In this two hour gap we done lots of planning and put our ideas together.

Once it was dark enough we started filming and did manage to capture many clips including bloopers. We only had about 45 minutes of recording but in those 45 minutes we managed to get many quality clips.

Overall the last day of filming was a good day because we didn't leave too much work for the last day just incase and due to that we managed to get all the clips we wanted.

Day Two of recording

Second day of our recording.

On the second day of our recording we had established that the best time to film our thriller is between the hours 16:00 and 17:00. We had 1 hour to film and we managed to get a lot of footage in that time. However it got too dark and we couldn't film as much as we planned on getting. On day two nobody was absent.

Overall it was a quite day we got some footage but hopefully on day 3 we will get more done.

Day one of recording

This was the first day we started recording.
We started recording around 15:30 and ended at 17:30 because the forest is only open until 17:45.
On the first day we managed to get around 10 clips of Justyna running in the forest. Including different sort of camera angling, long shots, close ups and many more. Unfortunately Lucas couldn't make it to the first day because he was ill but we still managed to get lots of footage.

Overall it was a good day and we managed to get lots of quality clips.

Day 3 of recording

On day 3, which was our final day of recording, we thought that we should meet up earlier, because the sky is more lighter, so we met at 2:30. When we got to the place, we realised that it is too light at the time, and we could not record, because on our film it would not look right. Therefore we had 2 hours, to burn in the woods, and we were talking about planning during that time. We felt a bit upset about waiting such a long time, but that is because we did not research about the best time slot for recording in that location.

When the lighting got darker, and it was good to start recording, we get to work straight away. We felt motivated to finish all our shots, as it was last day of our recording. We got some nice shots, and finished everything that we had to record, and overall I think that our footage is very good, and I can't wait to see final film opening.

Day 2 of recording

Unfortunately, I couldn't join my group on the first day of recording, because I was ill, but I made my best effort to come second day. We met in highgate woods around 4, because we thought that it is the best time slot, as the light already get darker, so it is not too dark.

We recorded some nice footage of girl running through the forest, we combined our ideas to get different camera angles to make it more interesting, like for example panning through the forest, low angle shots etc.

Overall, I think that the day was successful, because we got some nice footage from our recording. However, we got a bit worried, because we did not think that we have done enough for a day, because the sky got a bit too dark already, and the park was about to be closed as well, but we decided that next day we will come early to finish up our work.

Foley sounds

In our film opening, we will be using Foley sounds, to make our movie more professional. Foley sounds, are sounds that are recorded separately from the movie clip, and added on later for better sound effect. The sounds that we will be using in our film, is heavy breathing of a girl, as well as the mask, sounds of running through leaves, as we are doing our film in the forest. I think that it is important to use Foley sound in films, because you can't always get a clear sound from recording film, and the action sometime lacks because of unclear sounds.

These are some images from the Internet, of how exactly does recording Foley sounds look.

Beginning of Editing

This is the begining of our editing as you can see we have added many different clips together and make sure they match, but we still havent started adding sounds. we have decided that we will start adding sounds after the whole clip is done,  this is because it would be much easier to add the foley sounds once the video is fully done.

Ideas for our thriller - Sound

For our thriller we have thought about adding some sounds, one idea i thought about was adding some music one which i found on youtube. I like this because it has a suspense theme to it.

Day 2 Vlog

Video Blog of Day 2 of Filming

Ideas For Our Extra Foley Sounds

The foley sounds we are using in our opening vary from sounds of heavy breathing of both the girl running in tthe forest and also as foley sound of the mysterious man in the ski-mask.
Also we are using sounds of the girls footsteps in the forest and by this we had to record the sound of someone running through the forest whilst kicking leavs to add just that effect.
