Intertextuality

Intertextuality is when a film makes a reference about another film. These consist of; camera angling, editing, sound and mise-en-scene. Films that use intertextuality tend to make a reference about something that is related to to genre of the movie.

 For example the Simpson's psycho Spoof movie, in the clip Maggie is wielding a hammer and as she goes to strike homer the violin music from Psycho is used. Then Homer tries to grab onto something leading to him ripping the curtain also obtained from Psycho. Then the blood Poures into the plughole also from Psycho then the plughole transforms to homers eye(pupil) exactly the same as the scene from psycho. Below is screengrabs form both clips;
