  Intertextuality shapes the meaning of a media text by other texts. For example, many thriller films have borrowed or adapted the famous shower scene in Hitchcock's 'Psycho'. Intertextuality often happens in genres that are similar or appeal to a similar audience. This adds greater meaning as the audience are more likely to understand it and engage with it.
